Most patients believe all chiropractors are the same, they “crack” the spine back into place.
Actually, there are 134 different named known chiropractic techniques (See sites below). There are 24 movable bones in the spine called vertebrae. Each vertebrae moves in 6 different directions, forward (flexion), Backward (extension) sideways (left and right lateral flexion), and left and right rotation. Each technique can adjust each vertebrae differently in each direction. That means there are a lot of different ways to be adjusted.
Dr. Goff’s first experience with a chiropractor
At age 7, he was thrown from the back of a three year old horse while running full speed in front of seventeen other horses. The story goes, he
did two flips in the air and fell straight out of the sky like an arrow onto his head. He was run over by the other horses. Two weeks later, his
first grade teacher, Ms. Little, sent him home with a note pinned to his shirt. The note basically said “ His lights are on but no one is home” Please call me.
His mother and Ms. Little spoke
He was taken to Dr. Wines, chiropractor. Dr. Wines examined and adjusted the young boy. Nelson suddenly realized where he was, as if a dark cloud had been lifted. Dr. Wines had to hold him on the table while he explained what had happened and why he was brought to the office.
Dr. Goff has had over 6500 adjustments.
Since that day, Dr. Goff has had over 6500 adjustments to his spine and more than 50 different techniques. He sees his personal chiropractor once a week to keep his spine and health in the best shape possible.
Palmer College of Chiropractic
Through the years, he discovered that his spine responded better to low force chiropractic care then it did to high force chiropractic care. While he was studying at Palmer College of Chiropractic. (The oldest and largest chiropractic college in the world) he chose to specialize in low force chiropractic adjusting techniques.
Dr. Goff studied and practiced 15 different techniques.
In 2008, Dr. Goff decided on one primary technique, Activator Methods. No pops, no cracks, no twisting and turning. Though these sounds are common in chiropractic, they do not occur with the a activator method. If you find that Activator Method does not satisfy you, Dr. Goff will happily refer you to a chiropractor that uses the pop, crack, twist and turn approach.
Dr. Goff understands the power of a chiropractic adjustment.
Dr. Goff understands the power of a chiropractic adjustment. If he is unable to get to his personal chiropractor, he will readily get adjusted by another licensed chiropractor using other techniques. AND after 8 years of college and 34 years of practice Dr. Goff never ever adjusts himself. Nor should you ever self manipulate or allow an unlicensed person to “crack” your back.
At Yucca Valley Family Chiropractic, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.
Many of our patients come to see our chiropractor to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While our chiropractor will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.
What does nutrition have to do with chiropractic care? The goal of chiropractic care is to help patients achieve total health and balance with their body, and as part of that goal we provide specific recommendations on nutritional supplements and healthy food choices. Nutritional counseling by our experienced chiropractic health professionals can assist a patient on their return to optimal health. Do you know which supplements and vitamins are good for you? Do you know how these supplements and vitamins interact with one another? At our Yucca Valley chiropractic clinic, we can provide each patient with a structured nutritional program that is based on their individual needs.
Massage therapy does more than make you feel good, it can actually help your body achieve balance and health. Massage therapy offers a natural treatment approach which actually relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients. Our chiropractic office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is complimentary to their chiropractic care. Each massage therapy plan is tailored to meet the patient's unique pain condition or injury. The benefits of massage therapy may include the increase of blood circulation, a localized reduction in swelling and the relaxation of muscles. Massage has been known to relieve muscle pain and spasms, increase a patient's range of motion, while also aiding in a patient's recovery. Some investigative studies have even indicated that a single session of massage may help boost your immune system!
Spinal & Postural Screenings
There is a saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Your spinal health is no exception. Posture and spinal screenings by a trained and experienced chiropractor such as Dr. Nelson Goff can help reveal important health information, unlocking the door to improved health and well-being. In order to help the Yucca Valley community, we provide screenings at area malls, community events, health fairs and places of employment. Contact us today at (760) 365-0881 to arrange a screening at your event or workplace.
